[new DVD! Paragon's MARK OF ZORRO starring Douglas Fairbanks]
By 1916 over 20,000 cinemas were in operation across America. In the smallest of these, called "Nickelodeons," music was often provided by a solitary piano, tickled by the neighborhood "Professor." But in more than 8,000 U.S. theaters, orchestras provided the accompaniment to the action on the silver screen. The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra continues this grand tradition, recreating down to the last detail, the classic movie palace pit-orchestra of that golden era. Click on each of the following to sample short excerpts from the DVD, featuring Paragon's music with Nick Scheuble performing sound effects on the Orchestra's 1910 drum set: On this DVD, PRO underscores three legendary Chaplin comedies, using their original 1916/17 Mutual Studio musical cue sheets. These ultra-rare materials, discovered by Rick Benjamin in a library basement in 1992, are now reunited with these films for the first time since the late 1910s! DVD: 68 minutes. Black & white with live orchestra music & effects.
