ON THE LEVEL is Paragon's tribute to the vocal music of the Ragtime Era, featuring soprano and "comedienne" Jody Dall'Armi. While modern listeners tend to think of ragtime as exclusively "instrumental music" - that is - only playable by a piano or "band," in fact many rags were written to be sung as pop songs. This delighful 68 minute recording brings you to the birth of the pop music industry - "Tin Pan Alley" - where you'll meet some of the leading composers and lyricists of that vanished age. This colorful music is brought to life here by Jody Dall'Armi, one of America's leading recreators of historic vocal styles; as the Smithsonian Institution's Dwight Bowers put it, "She is more than just a spectral mimic of yesterday's great stars.
